BIN Setup
Understand BIN allocation, card types, and network-specific configurations for your card program.
A BIN (Bank Identification Number) is the first 6–8 digits of a card number. It uniquely identifies the issuing bank and card program within the card network.
What is a BIN?
When a card is used at a merchant or ATM, the card network uses the BIN to route the authorization request to M2P for your program.
BIN Allocation Parameters
BINs are allocated by the card network through your assigned bank partner. The following parameters are configured per BIN:
| Parameter | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| BIN Range | 6–8 digit prefix allocated by the card network | 456700 |
| Card Network | Visa, Mastercard, or RuPay | Visa |
| Card Category | Prepaid, Credit, or Debit | Prepaid |
| Currency | Primary currency for the BIN | INR, USD, EUR |
| Product Type | Virtual only, Physical only, or Both | Both |
| Country | Country of issuance | India |
BIN setup is performed by M2P's operations team during onboarding. You will receive your BIN details in the onboarding package. No API calls are needed for BIN configuration.
BIN and Card Network Relationship
Multiple BINs Per Program
A single tenant can have multiple BINs for different use cases:
| Scenario | BINs Needed |
|---|---|
| Single domestic card program | 1 BIN |
| Domestic + International cards | 2 BINs (one per network) |
| Multiple product types (Travel, Corporate, Gift) | 1 BIN per product or shared BIN with product differentiation |
| Multi-currency forex program | BIN per major currency or single BIN with multi-currency wallet |
BIN exhaustion (running out of card numbers in a BIN range) requires a new BIN allocation from the card network. Monitor your card issuance volume and plan BIN capacity ahead of time.
